The PhotoGT application is a Windows java application that allows you to receive images from the i730 MicroCam MIDlet via the data cable. Java is normally operating system independent, but since the program uses the COMM api, it must call native libraries that are specifically written for Windows hardware support.
A self-extracting install is available at http://www.greentechmobile.com/downloads/
Running PhotoGT
if you used the default installation settings, go to
Start->Run->PhotoGT->PhotoGT
Click the first button on the left that looks like the end of the data cable that connects to the phone and select the comm port that your phone is connected to. The list of active comm ports is generated when PhotoGT is started. If you start PhotoGT before connecting your phone the comm port may not be listed.
If you are using the usb data cable this may help you determine what comm port the USB drivers are using. First start PhotoGT with the phone disconnected and click on the left button. Note the comm ports that are listed. Then exit PhotoGT, connect your phone, and start PhotoGT again. There will be a new COMM port listed - that is the one the USB drivers are using. Select that one as the comm port to use for communicating to the phone.
Next, click the center button with the disk icon. A browser window will come up. Select the directory you want PhotoGT to save your files in.
Last, click the button on the right and the output window should show the following
Press the Receive button to start receiving images
COM3 was selected
The output directory has been set to C:\Documents and Settings\mab\My Documents
Opening port COM3 Configuring port COM3 Port COM3 opened
Now start the MicroCam app on your phone. The app will say "Unable to open digital camera", select Back and you will be at the Main Menu. Select Photo Album, and press the Send button while viewing the picture you want to transfer, or press Menu and select Send All. Once you are finished transferring the images you can exit PhotoGT.
About Image Quality
I have found that opening the images with Microsoft Photo Editor that comes with Windows XP and selecting
Image->AutoBalance
Greatly improves the quality of the images. You can also try Sharpen under the Effects menu.
